Teary Holly Carpenter hits back after being trolled for having two weddings

Holly Carpenter is preparing for her destination wedding in France this weekend, but was left teary-eyed after receiving nasty messages.

The bride-to-be explained that she got a lot of backlash for having a wedding at home in Dublin before having another lavish ceremony in France. However, there was a very good reason why she decided to go all-out for her legal nuptials at home.

Holly's father Karl is currently battling cancer and so won't be able to make the trip overseas to see her say 'I Do' for a second time with her husband, Jamie Hunt.

The pair knew this would be a possibility, and so made a 'big deal' of their special day in Dublin, with her dad walking her down the aisle, despite feeling particularly poorly that day.

Holly has now confirmed that her dad won't be making the trip over to France as he is undergoing treatment and simply isn't well enough to travel. She explained that she didn't want to appear on social media talking about it, and have her dad see her upset.

'This is something that if I had tried to come on and talk about when we first realised he wouldn't be able to come, I literally wouldn't have been able to speak without crying, but we've had time to accept it as a family,' she explained.

'Back in May, when Jamie and I got legally married, we were still really optimistic that he would be able to make it, but we still decided to make this Dublin wedding really special just in case,' she recalled.

'We still got a florist and a photographer and had all of our family there for lunch, and it was so intimate and so perfect and Dad was not feeling great that day, bless him, but he still turned up and walked me down the aisle.'

Holly got emotional as she sat on a park bench in France, confessing: 'Honestly, I'm just so happy that we had that day and the way that he has framed it in his mind as he's like, "That was your wedding day. I was there to walk you down the aisle. France is just a big party with your friends. Go and enjoy it."'

She explained that his treatment plan had changed, and so it clashes with the weekend. 'I would never ever want him to put himself in a position where he felt uncomfortable or at risk of getting sick just to keep me happy,' she added.

She went on to hit out at trolls who sent her nasty messages about her choice to have two big weddings, saying it was so nasty to see, considering the circumstances.

'Most people have been really kind and supportive, but there have been more than a couple of occasions when I spoke about the French wedding that I got nasty DMs,' she explained.

People called her attention-seeking or said it was a 'classic influencer move' to do it 'for content.'

'Obviously, there is a reason as to why we made more of a song and dance out of our ceremony, but even if there was no reason, even if I just wanted to, who cares? Mind your business,' Holly said.

She recalled one particularly horrible message from a 'miserable b**tard' who sent 'the nastiest message that was a paragraph long' calling Holly 'pathetic' and saying she must have a 'boring life to milk her wedding so much.'
