People are being advised to 'steer clear of travel' due to this situation. Sydney The railway system experiences significant disruptions with numerous delays and cancellations leading to extensive confusion.
On Tuesday afternoon, the network suddenly halted when a train passing through encountered tangled high-voltage wires that had dropped onto the tracks close to Strathfield station in Sydney’s inner west. This incident led to a power failure.
Substantial disturbances within the train network persist into today, with buses continuing to substitute for trains on multiple routes across the city.
Transport for NSW alerted passengers on Tuesday night that substantial delays and service cancellations were expected to persist across various lines of Sydney’s railway network throughout Wednesday, particularly affecting the T1, T2, and T3 routes.
'Those intending to commute via the railway system today should consider avoiding travel altogether or opt for alternate modes of transportation whenever feasible,' stated Transport for NSW.
'If you need to travel on the network there will be limited shuttles operating.
'If passengers must travel, plan ahead and allow extra travel time. We have trains running on all lines, but at a reduced frequency.
'Sydney Trains teams have been working hard overnight and have removed a defective train and completed repairs to the overhead wiring that caused major disruption on the rail network yesterday.'

About 22 bus services will be supplementing trains between Lidcombe and Ashfield from 6am.
'Sydney Trains apologises again to passengers for the inconvenience of the continuing disruption,' Transport for NSW said.
'It's expected the work will be completed later this morning and we will look to transition to normal timetabled services for the afternoon peak services.'
About 300 passengers on board the packed train hit by live wires were stranded for three hours before they were evacuated by carriages one by one.
New South Wales Transport Minister John Graham characterized the scenario as hazardous and posing severe threats to life since a 1500-volt power link was resting atop the train.
"This is indeed a highly serious matter, occurring right at the core of Sydney's railway system," Mr Graham stated to ABC News.
Mr Graham mentioned that the train's pantograph hit the overhead wires, resulting in the damage.
The video depicted affected passengers being guided off the train and making their way along the tracks to reach safety.

The electricity failure resulted in three additional trains stopping, as personnel came to the location to assist in evacuating the passengers.
Strathfield is a major interchange for multiple lines, with the incident affecting every line on the Sydney metro except for the T4 line.
The metro, trams, and local buses were not affected.
The team will conduct their last inspections on Wednesday morning prior to restoring electricity across six lines at Homebush and then beginning operations.
